SMOKEY THE CANNON: 65th Anniversary Celebration

Saturday, November 3rd
The Connally Ballroom at the Etter-Harbin Alumni Center

On November 3, 2018 during halftime of the
Texas vs. West Virginia game we will be
celebrating the 65th Anniversary of Smokey the Cannon. The Longhorn Band will be
performing a brand new commissioned piece
for Smokey named “The Cannon March” after
the famed stories told by Mike Perrin about
Darrel K. Royal’s request of firing the cannon
every first down!

We would like to invite all previous members of Cannon Crew or those that were ever care
takers of Smokey since 1953 to join us on the
field as we honor Smokey’s 65 years of service
to The University of Texas at Austin. We are
working with Athletics to make this happen. If
you would like to participate, please click here.

Did you know that the Texas Cowboys joined forces with The Arc 63 years ago? In 1954, they began their contributions with volunteering and fundraising. In 1962 the donations from the Texas Cowboys were put in a fund, and in 1982 a new building was purchased, the Cowboys had raised more than half of the total!
